1. Banana Yucca (Yucca baccata)
Banana yucca is native to the southwestern United States and is famous for its resilience and low-water needs. This species requires very little maintenance. Its leaves grow 60–90 cm long, and although flowering may take several years, the plant often dies shortly after its blooms fade.
2. Spanish Bayonet (Yucca aloifolia)
Also known as the Spanish bayonet, this yucca has extremely sharp and rigid leaves, so it should be planted away from walkways or play areas. It typically develops three stems at varying heights. In summer, it produces impressive clusters of flowers reaching up to 60 cm long.
3. Adam’s Needle (Yucca filamentosa)
Adam’s Needle is a flowering yucca known for its tall, striking flower stalk that can reach up to 2.4 meters. The plant features long, sword-like green leaves about 1 meter in length. A distinctive feature of this species is the thin, thread-like filaments along the edges of its leaves.
This evergreen yucca is hardy and can withstand temperatures as low as –15°C.
4. Spineless Yucca (Yucca elephantipes)
Spineless yucca, also called Guatemalan yucca or elephantipes yucca, lacks the sharp spikes found on other species. It is the tallest in the yucca family, with smooth, evergreen, leathery leaves that grow in a spiral shape.
As the plant matures, it forms a thick, gray trunk resembling an elephant’s foot—hence the name “elephant yucca.” Outdoors, it can reach up to 9 meters, while indoors it usually grows to about 1.5 meters.
5. Weak Leaf Yucca (Yucca recurvifolia)
This type of yucca produces long leaves that tend to droop or bend as they mature. It features beautiful, dense, bell-shaped white flowers. Although softer in appearance, it still resembles other sharp-leaf yucca varieties and grows between 0.6 and 1.5 meters tall.
